BackPit Stop: Phase One

Phase One

Even before she was able to cool down we were already well into the process of making this "Pit Stop" another success.

Here the methodical process of removing the OEM supercharger is being tended to as we will be installing a smaller Whipple supercharger pulley thus increasing significantly the ability to stretch her legs. We have share many times that through the use of a smaller supercharger pulley that performance gains are significant, what we refer to as an awesome gear blast setup however the next step is the large Whipple supercharger which transforms the gals into a beast.

Here we have removed the front pulley snout from the OEM supercharger as we make ready to press the OEM supercharger pulley off and in its place when be the new smaller Whipple supercharger pulley.

Here we have opened the OEM air box to inspect the air filters and have deemed them in need of a fresh pair of OEM air filters.

Here we have removed the OEM air inlet support sleeve which is the thin piece shown in the picture and are replacing it with the full length air inlet support sleeve also shown in the picture as created by AccuFab. The purpose for this full length air inlet sleeve is to insure that the inlet tube does not collapse as the direct result of the increased air being drawn through it as the result of the smaller Whipple supercharger pulley.

Here is the Mafia; a Mafia is a signal scaling device used to alter the OEM signal as generated by the MAF aka mass air flow sensor. This device allows the OEM MAF and the smaller Whipple supercharger pulley to play well together and also allow for the ability to create a comprehensive tune. We have mounted the Mafia to a custom plate as created by Shadowman and the unit was also disassembled so that it could be sheathed with an OEM style mesh covering so that once in position it appears to be an OEM piece thus the term we use often; "integrated".

Here is the OEM throttle body as removed from the OEM supercharger and the new polished billet aluminum AccuFab throttle body that will be installed. The OEM throttle body is a wonderful piece however the polished billet aluminum AccuFab throttle body allows for crisper throttle response, a broader power band, and looks stunning. When we integrate an AccuFab throttle body we also install a new OEM throttle position switch because all too often the OEM screws that secure OEM throttle position switch are difficult if not impossible to remove; for the record the OEM throttle body is not a serviceable item but rather is a part defined as a component replacement.

Here we have removed the OEM spark plugs and in their place with be a fresh set of NGK TR7 IX spark plugs. The new spark plugs operate at a cooler temperature and then by our closing the electrode gap to .025 we are able to insure that she remains very happy with the increased supercharger boost derived from the smaller Whipple supercharger pulley.

During the course of the project we removed the two rear under body panels; sadly a previous person had over tightened many of the Torx to the point that they were difficult to removed; in fact some were damaged and one of the OEM Nutserts was absent a Torx because the threads had been destroyed; this without ever letting this gal's owner know. The under body panels are to receive a specific torque value; a torque value that is very moderate so there is no reason for this damage.
Here we are replacing the damaged OEM Nutsert with a fresh OEM Nutsert.

Here we are tending to the oil and filter portion of her service. During this process we carefully inspect to insure that all visible hardware is properly secured and that there are no fluid leaks present and then in the case of this gal we also replaced the 3 OEM engine oil drain plugs with the wonderful magnetic drain plugs as created by Jay aka The GT Saver. Once this task was completed we then installed a fresh OEM oil filter, a fresh load of OEM engine, and a fresh load of transaxle oil making her ready for another wonderful season of being exercised and enjoyed.

Here we have removed the OEM fixed position clamshell bump stops and will be replacing them later style springs. The later style allow for easier closing and opening of the clamshell and also tend to eliminate the squeaking as associated with the fixed position clamshell bump stops.

Now this "Pit Stop" crew has remained relentless with us now having her ready for the OEM supercharger to be reassembled and set back into position after which she will be moved to the clean room portion of the facility so that the very methodical process of preparing her high risk painted surfaces and then wrapping them in plastic will commence.
